If considering to register your place of residence in Estonia through e-channels you have to do that at Eesti.ee – the official portal for these kinds of conducts. To your surprise they may display you an application form to be filled in which is amazingly complex compared to its actual simplicity. Following is the form in its entirety:

This form is so bulky it reminds me of the first electronical forms created at the end of 1990s. It’s like time travel to the past as in famous Michael J. Fox the movie.
First of all there is no normal spacing so the form elements are stashed almost on top of each other which makes it a lot more confusing for human mind to process. For example check the missing spacing in between the “Salvesta avaldus” (“Save application”) button and the row above it. Second of all most of the times there is no need to fill in more than a third of the form fields everything else is secondary or tertiary as indicated below:
Primary info in the form:
- Section A is to confirm either you are filling in your own application or doing it for someone else.
- Section B is to fill in your previous place of residence but just in case you arrived from abroad.
- Section C is to enter your new place of residence – the address. This is the most important part of the form.
- Section D is to enter your contact email and phone which is also logically quite mandatory.
Secondary and tertiary info:
- Section number 1 needs to be filled in just in case you want to register someone else to the new place of residence together with yourself. There is no need to show 6 empty rows instead just an unchecked checkbox to be ticked if other people are to be registered. Also instead of displaying all the rows at once a “Add another person” or similar button/link is appropriate to use (see an illustrative example below).

- Section number 2 needs to be filled in case you will for a while have an another contact address that is different from your main place of residence. This is pretty confusing part of the form and most of the times it is probably not used. An unchecked checkbox is in place again.
- Section number 3 is to let the officials know from and till which dates your contacts are valid. Basically trivial information often left blank which can be hidden by default.
- Section number 4 must be filled in case you are not the owner of the place. If this section is necessary probably most often you have to add just one not three owners. An unchecked checkbox is also suitable here.
🙂 And by the way all the most important parts of the website “are” in English:
